German league boss calls for football salary cap in Europe

Frankfurt (dpa) - German football league (DFL) president Reinhard Rauball, in an interview published on Monday, called for a salary cap in professional football.

Rauball told Kicker sports magazine that a solution on the issue should involve the European football union UEFA.

Rauball did not name a figure, bur rather favours a certain percentage of a club's budget to determine maximum payments for players.

"You could for instance say that a maximum 50 per cent of the (club) budget can be spent on personnel," Rauball told Kicker.

"I would like to tackle this issue. It must be dealt with on a European level, UEFA must be involved," he said. (dpa)
