Thousands of Egyptians demonstrate against Israeli raids on Gaza

Cairo - Thousands of Egyptians demonstrated on Monday in front of the Press Syndicate in Cairo.

Chanting "Open the door to Jihad," and "Hamas, Hamas attack back," some 3,000 people gathered in front of the syndicate building's steps and blocked the main street, witnesses said.

They called for cutting ties with Israel, removing the Israeli ambassador and stopping gas exports to Israel - especially as the gas is sold at a low price compared to international prices.

Most of the demonstrators were of the banned Muslim Brotherhood, the main opposition in the Egyptian parliament.

The demonstrators also carried placards criticizing Egyptian authorities for closing the border with Gaza, and condemned the "passive" reaction of the Egyptian government.

On Sunday, around 50,000 students had already taken to the streets in front of Cairo University. (dpa)
