According to reports, Barnes & Noble's Nook is coming to Best Buy, a development that launches the Kindle-like e-reader to the electronics vendor's tech-savvy clients.
Starting Sunday April 18, Best Buy will sport Nook displays in its 1,070 U. S. stores. Consumers will be able to try and purchase the Nook, or buy one from the retailer's website.
Today's declaration validates last week's gossips that the Nook was coming to Best Buy. Meanwhile, many are waiting to hear if Target will sell the Amazon Kindle, another e-reader rumor that looks likely, chiefly in light of the Apple’s over-hyped iPad launch earlier this month.
Style sells, of course, and the comparatively dull Nook might have a difficult time contending with the flashy iPad that Best Buy also sells. Certainly, the strategy of cloistering the Nook in its own booth makes sense, mainly since it lets a Best Buy worker to express the e-reader's features far from the oohs and aahs of the iPad-adoring mob.
Up till now, the only place to see and try Barnes & Noble's e-reader was at the seller's bookstores, most of which had prominent Nook booths near their doorways.
This difficult-to-get method might have inadequate initial sales, but maybe that was a good thing. After all, the Nook had an unsteady unveiling late last year, one cursed by dearth of supply and less-than-stellar evaluations varying from lukewarm to absolute hostile.
So, a little extra exposure would definitely be of advantage to the Nook.
