Twitter Looking to Generate Revenues Via Advertising

Twitter, the highly popular microblogging website is all set to take the wraps off its new advertising model on Tuesday, which would mark the site's first step towards trying to combat some of the growing concerns about its revenue generating potential.

Christened "Promoted Tweets", the advertising initiative will be officially rolled out to 2-10% of users initially through search in Twitter. com stating Tuesday, as has been revealed by the company spokesperson Sean Garrett.

Promoted Tweets are just like normal tweets, only these would come from businesses and organizations which want to reach out to a bigger group of users.

"Users will start to see tweets promoted by our partner advertisers called out at the top of some Twitter. com search results pages", said Mr. Garrett.

Reports are that several giants are all set to run their advertisements, including Best Buy, Virgin America and Starbucks, among others.

Eden Zoller, analyst at technology research firm Ovum feels that Twitter has huge potential and the latest development is definitely a step in the right direction.
