Researchers Might Come Out with a Viagra for Women Soon

According to a British study released on Tuesday, researchers might be one closer to develop a Viagra for women.

Viagra use might help overcome the sexual side-effects of antidepressants.

Endeavors to cure female sexual dysfunction with Pfizer's erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra, have for the most part been unsuccessful, but a new sample from the company provides hope for a female-specific cure for those with female sexual arousal disorder, FSAD.

The researchers tested the drug on rabbits, which acts by bolstering blood flow, particularly to the genitalia, improving and expanding the duration of arousal.

However, the drug would not be of assistance to all sorts of female sexual arousal disorder, as blood flow is only one of several reasons that women experience sexual dysfunction.

Sheryl Kingsberg, Chief of the Division of Behavioral Medicine at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, says, "This is the closest thing out there to Viagra for women but the problem is that a Viagra-like effect will not solve the majority of sexual dysfunction cases in women”.

Kingsberg said that for the nearly 5% of women who have diagnosable arousal disorders linked to blood flow, this treatment could be "the right option" and, most likely a safe one.

Chris Wayman, the Lead Researcher on the Project said that by exclusively blocking the enzyme in the body, which checks blood flow to this area, the drug could permit larger blood flow and boost physiological arousal.
