A contagious reproductive horse disease could have been transferred from imported horses from Alberta and Ontario in the US, warns the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The Canadian agency has warned the horse owners about the danger of their horses getting affected by the disease.
The disease known as equine metritis is a highly contagious disease that affects horses' reproductive tracts. But the disease can be cured in majority of cases with disinfectants and antibiotics.
At the same time, the U.S. officials have confirmed that three horses on a Kentucky farm were suffering from CEM. The disease could have been contacted through frozen semen of one of the diseased horses that was transported through shipments.
The CFIA has warned against import of breeding horses, embryos and semen from the U.S.
