A Study Finds, Aspirin Can Ease Migraine Pains

A study has revealed that more than half of patients, who took common painkillers like aspirin found that their symptoms were relieved significantly.

An analysis of a research published by the respected Cochrane Library revealed that the pills had eliminated pain in one out of four patients. It is said that several migraine patients already use over-the-counter painkillers like aspirin to relieve their pain.

However, researchers do not have much proof, on whether the medicine is effective against the sickness or not. About 13 studies involving a total of 4,222 patients, was analyzed in order to evaluate the benefits of aspirin against a placebo.

The research showed that taking three aspirin tablets within two hours of pain growing was helpful for quite a lot of patients.

Sheena Derry, from the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, and one of the researchers of the review, stated, "My advice for sufferers would be to try aspirin or other over-the-counter medicines as a first choice and then go onto more migraine specific drugs if these do not work. A significant number of people will benefit from aspirin”.

Since Migraine can have terrible impacts on the quality of life, the World Health Organization has listed migraine as one of its top 20 most incapacitating conditions.

It is said that the team is further planning to look at other general over-the-counter painkillers, counting Ibuprofen and paracetamol.
