Premier Dalton McGuinty stated that Ontario recognizes that its drug reforms might harm smaller pharmaceutical companies that specialize in medicine rather than bear more lucrative products such as cosmetics.
There has been a rumor regarding the price cuts that will be made in medicines, saving money for customers and drug plans. The Government is responsible in ensuring that the quality of medicines does not deteriorate and that at the same time it is affordable too.
In Ontario, the responsibility of Government is to place lots of pharmacy outlets, which are reasonable and accessible for the people living in Ontario.
His comments came after Shoppers Drug Mart stepped up its crusade against the reforms, buying full-page advertisements in the most important newspapers, including the Star.
The advertisements stated that the firm understands the necessity to lessen health expenses and general drug prices, however it also said that the Government is going about it an incorrect way because providing fees for prescriptions under drug plans, which is funded by tax payers remain about half the $14 that it costs to fill a prescription.
