Three workers injured in tunnel cave-in

Tirana - Three Turkish workers and an Albanian were injured Tuesday morning when the roof in a tunnel they were working in caved in and buried them, local reports said.

The men, employees of the US-Turkish engineering consortium Bechtel-Enka, were operating heavy machinery in a 6-kilometre tunnel in northern Albania that is part of a
418-million-euro (593 million dollars), 170 kilometre motorway being built through Albania from the Adriatic to Kosovo.

The Turkish nationals were brought across the nearby border with Kosovo, to a hospital in Prizren, while the injured Albanian was flown for treatment in the Albanian capital Tirana.

Local reports say the men sustained serious injuries, but no official confirmation of their report was immediately issued. (dpa)
