Recent Claims by Viacom in Copyright Case Against Google

There is a fresh wave of tribulations in the already muddy battle between Viacom and Google. The bone of contention is the issue of copyright relating to You Tube which is Viacom’s subsidiary.

Viacom claims that fresh documents will aid its case against Google.

Since the inception of the case in 2007, such blanket declarations have been made by both sides. Viacom had filed a lawsuit of $ 1 billion against Google.

Viacom claims that the new documents furnish evidence that evinces, Google "made a deliberate, calculated business decision not only to profit from copyright infringement, but also to use the threat of copyright infringement to try to coerce rights owners like Viacom into licensing their content on Google's terms".

Google purchased You Tube for $1.65 billion in October 2006.

However, a representative from You Tube declares that the documents that Viacom claims will incriminate Google are not new in any way. Moreover, they have also been taken out of context. The representative also stated that these allegations by Viacom stand testament to the fact that the company is trying to litigate the case in the press.
