"A Revolution is Brewing" - this is what the t-shirts adorned by Des Monies tea partiers read, and in all the Tea Party Rally counted a whopping 1,000 participants. Quite an impressive number. Actually, the number was over 1,000, and organizers of the event have termed it as an "impressive display of political force" that the movement has now managed to garner.
Now, some of you might think that 1,000 is not a number to boast of, but the Tea Party Rally organizers and participants are pretty happy about it, and although the Thursday tax day rally did not turn out to be as huge as advertised, things were alright at the end of the day.
"We aren't a political party. We're a movement. We aren't a PAC, we aren't running candidates ... and we're not being bought out. That's what the tone-deaf power brokers don't want, and it really scares them to death", said Doug Burnett, a founder of the Des Moines Tea Party. Very strong statement we say! Don't know about the "scaring" part, but the statement will definitely burn some ears!
In addition to Des Moines, there were many other Iowa cities which saw crowds come together during the rally in "hundreds".
The main aim of the Tea Party Rally is to highlight the heavy taxes that are looming about and how these need to be cut down. Mantra of the Des Moines gathering was: Less Government, Less Spending. And unhappy people in the crowd waved signs that read "Don't steal. The IR$ doesn't like competition" and "For sale: Our Congress".
Seems like the public is not happy with the Government, and this might make things brighter for the opposition. Let's see how the authorities deal with this.
