Daily Mail has reported that merely dieting will not help you lose that extra weight. Scientists believe that this could happen due to an innate compensatory system that lessens a person’s physical activity in reaction to a diminution in calories.
A research was carried out on 18 monkeys who were fed a high-fat diet for numerous years. After this, they were switched to a low-fat diet which was almost a 30% reduction in the calorie consumption for the first month and 60% reduction for the second month.
The monkeys did not lose much weight in the first month, may be because of their decreased levels of activity.
Opposing the newspaper report, they did lose weight in the second month, even though they did not indulge much in any kind of physical exercise.
Another three female monkeys had been on a standard diet. However, they exercised on a treadmill, and lost the same amount of their body weight to the monkeys who had been kept on the calorie-restricted diet.
The simple method to understand this, a person should burn extra calories consumed by exercising more. Either reduce the calorie intake or do more exercise to compensate the extra amount of fat accumulated in the body.
