Bristol Palin Is Mother Of A Baby Boy

Bristol Palin's newly-born son - Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston - is the first grandchild for the Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin. Bristol gave birth to the 7-pound, 4-ounce boy on Sunday, in Palmer, Alaska.

According to reports, both Bristol and the baby are fine. However, whether the baby's father - Levi Johnston - was present at the time of the baby's birth is not certain.

Johnston, a former Wasilla High School hockey player, is a trainee electrician. He and Bristol have been seeing each other for three years. In October, Johnston had told the Associated Press that the two intended getting married in 2009, and raising the child together.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy was announced for the first time in September by Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate. Creating a stir nationwide with the news, Sarah Palin had said that Bristol, who eventually planned to marry Johnston had the "unconditional love and support" of the Palin family.

In a statement, the governor and her husband had said when their daughter came to them with news of her pregnancy, "we as parents knew it would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned."

The Palin family and relatives are excited at the news of the baby's birth. Speaking on behalf of the family, Sarah Palin's aunt, Colleen Jones, told People Magazine: "We think it's wonderful. The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."
