64 year old Jenny Whitehead is currently facing a 5 month wait for a surgery to have a cyst on her spine removed, because she, at one time, ended up paying 250 Pounds to consult an orthopedic surgeon.
The only alternative she has right now is to pay 10,000 Pounds to have the cyst removed at a private practitioner. About two years back, the Government had promised that patients who go prefer to go private before a NHS treatment would not be slapped with any penalties, but yesterday, it was announced that although this was still true, patients who paid for consultation were not included in the pledge.
Miss. Whitehead, who is a survivor of breast cancer from Haworth in West Yorkshire, has share that she had only paid for the private consultation at Airedale Hospital because she had been asked to wait for 6 months to see the specialist after she was referred in December last year.
As has been shared by Miss. Whitehead, the cyst, which is reportedly pressing on her sciatic nerve, had been making her suffer from "intense pain" and that even the though of waiting so long for an appointment was frightening and something she could not face.
