Organ Donation Advocates Show Concerns Over Lack of Organs to Transplants

David received a new heart and lungs on April 6, 2006, after a long wait of nearly a year to get a transplant surgery.

However, it was actually too late. The 34-year-old Middletown succumbed to death five days later.

The figures reveal that 13 percent of New Yorkers over the age of 18 are listed in the organ donor registry, posted Julia Rivera, communications director for the New York Organ Donor Network.

The present scenario clearly reveals a huge scarcity of organ donors in this country. It is revealed that there are above 106,000 patients on the national waiting list in need of an organ transplant, of which 10,000 are Texans.

Also, more than 6,500 of the patients on the national waiting list died last year, accounting to nearly 18 patients per day, without ever undergoing a transplant because there is scarcity of organs for transplant.

It is uncovered that about 25 people whose lives intersect via organ donation came out for the first meeting of the Orange County Donate Life Group, each seeking to make a difference.
