Acer's new laptop, Aspire 8930G-7665, powered by Intel's Q9000, a Core 2 Quad mobile chip, has been launched. The notebook's Intel processor with four cores uses a shared 6 Mbyte level-2 cache, includes a 1.066 GHz front-side bus, and runs at up to 2.53GHz.
While Intel's topmost processor, QX9300, is priced at $1,038, and all its other mobile quad-core chips are priced at $851; the Q9000 is fairly economically priced - at $348 in
1,000-unit lots!
Owing to the low-cost Intel chip, Acer's notebook has a competitive edge - with its US$1,799 starting price - over the pricey quad-core notebooks from the top two PC vendors of the world, namely, Hewlett-Packard and Dell. Quad-core laptops from both HP and Dell - available either as gaming laptops or mobile workstations - have a starting price of over $2,000.
The specs of Acer's notebook include an 18.4-inch WUXGA Acer CrystalBrite screen, which that can display high-definition images and video. In addition, it comprises features like - a 500GB hard drive; 4GB of RAM; 802.11a/b/g, a 6-in-1 card reader; a Blu-ray Disc drive; GeForce 9700M GT graphics card with 512MB of video memory; and Wi-Fi wireless networking. The notebook, preloaded with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Premium OS, also has a webcam, and Dolby HomeTheater-class sound!
