Recent reports have revealed that Apple in all probability will stick to an OLED display for the sequel of the iPad.
Digitimes, after consultation with component makers of the iPad proclaims that the second generation iPad will employ an identical design concept as the iPhone 4G.
This information comes despite the fact that the OLED panels are thought to be too expensive to be inculcated in the iPad.
However, it is conjectured that by the time the next generation of iPads is released the prices of the OLED displays would have fallen. Moreover, large panel makers have been showing interest in OLED production. Samsung is the leader in this area.
It has been reported that LG has also bought Kodak's OLED division the year before. Also, AU Optronics (AUO) intends to recommence OLED production in 2011.
It is being anticipated that this additional capacity may result in a drop in prices of OLED panels. The prices may become suitable and the iPad may be incorporated with the OLED panel at an economical cost.
However, Mingchi Kuo, Analyst at Digitimes doubts that this is possible. He delineates that elevated prices of OLED panels will continue to impede the panel’s adoption in the iPad in 2011.
