The state is reported to launch an appliance rebate program this week in a bid to encourage consumers to trade in their energy-draining clunkers for what they call as newer, super efficient models.
The state reportedly received $6.6 million in federal stimulus money to fund the program, which is slated to unveil on Thursday.
A list of energy-efficient appliances including refrigerator, dishwasher, clothes washer and freezer models are reported to have been posted on a special Web site specifically developed for the program.
The Cash for Appliances program included a 20 percent rebate offer on new energy-efficient appliances. The rebates are said to continue as long as supplies last on a "first come, first served" basis.
As per the estimations made by the state Department of Energy Resources 27,000 older appliances will be taken out of service under the program.
That clearly signifies that Massachusetts residents will use 2.6 million fewer kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is obviously sufficient energy amount required to power 340 households for one year.
