On Monday it was decided by an arbitrator that Boston fighters would receive a sturdy raise and they should agree to casual drug and alcohol testing.
It was seen that after three years of the dispute between the Boston Firefighters Union and the city the deal was all done.
On Monday night Mayor Tom Menino gave a review on the deal. According to him, the main issue was the casual drug test .
It was also noticed that in August 2007, two Boston firefighters were killed in a restaurant in West Roxbury. After testing these fighters it was seen that one of the fighter had traces of cocaine and the other one was legally drunk.
"I've told the mayor to his face, on television, radio and elsewhere, Boston firefighters are committed to doing random drug testing. We just want a fair policy for our members", said Union President Ed Kelly in September.
On Monday arbitrator made a decision that the firefighters must agree to casual drug and alcohol testing. He also said that they would be receiving 19% raise in the next 4 years.
