Subsequent to a confirmed case of tuberculosis, a small group of people at Barrie's Georgian College campus is undergoing tests for the infectious disease.
People who have been exposed to the disease are being contacted by the college officials for medical evaluation to determine their risk of infection.
The individual who has been detected with the disease has been placed in segregation. The details of the infected person have not been made public yet.
Ann Corner, Manager of the communicable diseases program revealed that the matter is being investigated into by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. It is possible that people who came into contact with the infectious person can carry on as normal. Corner added that as long as they're well and healthy, there's no problem.
Corner said, "The numbers fluctuate because we're still at the early part of our investigation. There are a few that we are looking at, but numbers change all the time".
She further added that having a cup of coffee with the infected person does not spread TB. One has to spend an extended period of time, everyday for a number of days to get infected. People who live with the contagious person are at risk indeed.
