New round of airstrike in Gaza kills one, injures dozens

Gaza City - Israeli warplanes carried a new round of airstrikes in Gaza Tuesday afternoon, killing at least one Palestinian and wounding several dozen, hospital officials and witnesses said.

At least 10 more Palestinians, including two sisters aged 4 and 11, had been killed in more airstrikes earlier in the day.

The new targets included a house with a farm in southern Gaza City's al-Mughrara neighbourhood. Witnesses said two rockets hit the house and when dozens of civilians entered to rescue those inside, a third rocket struck, causing more casualties.

A Hamas police station in Gaza City's Tufa neighbourhood, a metal workshop and a dairy factory in central Gaza City, as well as training bases of the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed wing, in the north and the south of the strip were also hit.

Gaza emergency services chief Mo'aweya Hassanein said at least 400 of Gazans injured since Saturday were in serious condition. Around 100 had been transferred to hospitals in Egypt by Tuesday afternoon, he said.

The casualty toll of four days of Israeli airstrikes against Hamas targets in the densely-populated strip has reached at least 360 dead and 1,700 injured. (dpa)
