Relay to Help Raise Cancer Awareness and Funds

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring the 12th Annual Relay for Life, an event aimed at raising awareness related to cancer and raise funds for research. This event will take place at the Plant City High football field on May 15-16. Various student groups and campus clubs are making a concerted effort to make the event a success.

The event had helped raise around $60,000 till April 13 and is expected to raise more amount. The organizers hope to raise $250,000 this time from the event.

The relay is being organized with the help of volunteers and community members. The organizers hope to organize various events apart from the relay which can help them to raise funds as well as awareness through this event.

Around 17 teams have confirmed their participation in the event and the organizers hope to reach a figure of 30 teams by next fortnight.

The purpose of this event, according to American Cancer Society, is to increase cancer awareness through research, education, advocacy efforts as well as proactive action.

A special dinner will also be organized for cancer survivors. The organizers have already confirmed the participation of 100 cancer survivors for the event.
