Eye Diseases May Possibly Be Tackled With Green Tea

A team of scientists have been able to discover that green tea can help in the prevention of glaucoma and other eye problems.

Scientists while researching found, the well-known antioxidants and other disease-fighting properties that are present in green tea, penetrate inside the tissues of the eye.

This recent study has been able to establish that retina, the lens and other eye tissues soak up other substances.

Chi Pui Pang and contemporaries have pointed out that the supposed green tea catechins have been amongst a number of antioxidants that was perceived to be capable of protecting the eye.

The antioxidants present in green tea are vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, and zeaxanthin. However, until now, no one had a clue of whether the catechins in green tea passed through stomach and gastrointestinal passageway into the tissues of the eye.

Study of eye tissues have illustrated beyond any doubt that eye compositions soaked up large quantities of individual catechins.

For instance, the retina soaked the highest levels of gallocatechin, whereas the aqueous humor likely absorbed epigallocatechin.

The lasting effect of green tea’s antioxidants to curb injurious oxidative stress in the eye remained for almost 20 hours.
