The proposed cuts to make National Health Services more efficient can have a negative impact on the overall health of the patients, according to a survey. A survey of around 370 doctors from around the country has revealed that these cuts can have a disastrous impact on national health in the long run.
The so-called efficiency cuts will prove ineffective, despite political assurances which support these cuts. NHS hopes to save a sum of £15-20 billion over the next three years, as a result of these cuts.
The doctors mentioned that they are under pressure to cut down on patient visits and referrals.
They are also forced to cut down on the number of prescriptions and use economical medicines even though expensive medicines may be more beneficial for patients. The doctors stress that even though money may be saved in the process, patient health may suffer considerably.
The critics of these measures stress that instead of wasting money, the NHS should focus on making the system more efficient and accountable. They also argue that expensive drugs from bigger drug companies can be replaced by generic drugs. These economical drugs are as effective as expensive ones.
If patients are treated promptly and efficiently, it can lead to savings in the longer run for NHS, according to medical experts.
