Speed Traps from Space Can be Effectively Set by Cameras

In an interesting new development, the UK Government is currently busy putting to test a new type of speed camera that utilizes satellites to catch cars which exceed the speed limit.

Christened that "SpeedSpike" system, the new technique works by measuring average the speed between any of the two points in a network, and it is being touted that the system can end up covering a network of residential streets in order to successfully enforce speed limits around schools, cut back on congestions and allow law enforcement officials to focus their attention and priorities on other matters.

PIPS Technology, the America-owned company, has shared that the cameras can easily capture license plate numbers in "all weather conditions, 24 hours a day". The new system's cost has been touted as quite affordable and it promises easy installation.

"It is a natural evolution of the technology that is out there", says a surprisingly subdued AA, a driver's lobby group and a provider of roadside assistance which is not objecting to the new technology.
