An 11-year-old Harry Crowther is dealing with the ailments of elderly due to a rare genetic condition. While other boys of his age are kicking a football around and enjoying the fun of childhood, he is turning into an old man.
His body is aging too fast. He is suffering from arthritis and his skin has started to age. Harry is one of the 16 people in the world, who have atypical progeria syndrome. Though, he is the only child in the UK to have the syndrome.
His mother, Sharon, who is a Deputy Manager at a preschool, shared that her son is coping with the situation boldly. She said, “He just gets on with life. Harry is in mainstream school, is very bright and loving and enjoys what most boys enjoy, this being Scouts, The Simpsons, Xbox 360, Wii, swimming and riding his bike”.
Yesterday, at Windsor Castle, he was presented with the chief scout's commendation for meritorious conduct, after a St George's Day parade for his positive strength of mind to carry on scouting despite having to cope with many difficulties. His attitude sets an example for others.
His mother share further that Harry knows what exactly is happening to him and the kind of activities he can do so he will do them for a short period of time.
