An early algae bloom is held responsible for the awful taste of tap water in Indianapolis.

People have been making calls to the Indianapolis Water Company to forward their complaints regarding the taste of the water now days.

Veolia Water spokesperson, Paul Whitmore stated that the problem has been identified to the Prairie Creek Reservoir in Muncie.

There is an algae bloom, because of which, the taste of water has turned very awful and due to the same thing, there is stinky smell as well in water.

The contaminated water is flowing into the 16th Street treatment facility, which supplies water to 70% of Indianapolis consumers.

Whitmore said that it tasted really bad as if there is dirt and moss in it.

However, since timely action is in process, it seems there is a major improvement in the taste now and the water is safe for consumption.

Scientists have been examining the water, in order to discover the species and doing cell counts to check if cyanobacteria, was above danger levels.

Update: As per recent comments from Mr. Paul Whitmore, the water is safe for drinking. The organisation is working on the issue and the adjustments have been made in the water treatment process to filter out the compounds causing taste and odor issues.
