International Space Station

NASA is working on the plans to build a new vessel which can be utilized as an emergency escape by the astronauts. The proposed vessel will be send to the International Space Station.

Administrator Charles F. Bolden Junior said, “The Orion capsule would not have to be rated to carry humans and would only have to comply with safety requirements for vehicles visiting the station and those that return astronauts to Earth”.

The move will surely be beneficial as it will pose a domestically produced return vehicle on the International Space Station. It will take approximately three years for the proposal to get materialized. It will also ease the pressure and burden given by few commercial vendors who offer vehicle with a short human rated capability.

President Obama has stated that the Government will no longer be funding NASA‘s Constellation program which was initiated by the previous Government, and aimed to reach at the moon by 2020, instead he stressed on building of rocket systems and vessels.

Orion capsule aims to utilize spacecraft as transporters for carrying crews and cargo. Though this thought of Obama has acquired a lot of criticism but the advantages of having such a program cannot be overruled.
