A new Internet Service Provider or ISP has launched service and classifies websites by putting age-restrictions on them. The aim of this service is to help protect children from the inappropriate content on the internet.
Tibboh has teamed up with British Board of Film Classification or BBFC, for this service. This innovative concept was suggested by Professor Tanya Byron after a study was undertaken to make internet safer for young children.
It has developed a filtration system along with BBFC which is according to UK’s film and DVD classifications U, PG, 12, 15 and 18. The service costs £19.99 per month with data usage of 10GB. It is a wireless service which means no landline phone is required for the service.
This innovative technology works by assessing a request for access to a website by a predefined rating set by a parent, guardian or a school teacher. After that it will only allow the site to download if the user’s age meets the predefined age criteria.
The company claims that the mobile version of the service can be accessed on all the networks. But right now it is only available on Vodafone network but will soon be accessible on Orange and T-Mobile network.
