A 23 year old person, who is mentally weak, was charged with assault after a small argument with the police officer. The police gave shocks to the alleged person with Taser. The incident took place during afternoon in Winkler, at the Boundary Trails Hospital.
The police states that the accused was being escorted by a native police official to the hospital, and within few minutes, a scuffle shaped up and the man grabbed the firearm of the police officer. Though it led to the commencement of scuffle between the two but the officer was able to grab back his gun. Finally, the accused was shot with the Taser.
A spokesman with the hospital authority said, "The patient had not been of any particular concern to hospital security".
Kathy McPhail, the CEO of the authority commented that any circumstance which raises a question mark on the safety measure will be definitely reviewed closely. The man is under the custody of RCMP and his presence will be demanded in the Portage la Prairie court soon.
So far, no major injuries have been reported due to the assault.
