Microsoft’s Rise in Revenue Attributed to Windows 7

It was reported by Microsoft Corporation that its revenue in the most recent quarter rose 6%. The company has been able to achieve this owing to the sturdy demand of its Windows 7 operating system.

It was reported that for the quarter that ended in March, Microsoft had earned revenue of 14.5 billion U. S. dollars. Last year, the company had accrued revenue of 13.64 billion dollars in the same quarter.

It was reported that profit increased to 4.01 billion dollars or 45 cents a share. This marks a rise of 35% and 36% respectively compared to a year ago.

Microsoft also stated that its Windows business revenue increased 28% in the quarter. This was increased by a persistent high demand for Windows 7. This operating system was released in October in 2009.

It is reported that more than 10% of all personal computers in the world have employed Windows 7. This is thus the fastest-selling operating system in history, according to the company.

"Business customers are beginning to refresh their desktops and the momentum of Windows 7 continues to be strong," Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft, revealed in a statement.

This just stands testament to the fact that if the product is good, it will sell. Recession or no recession, Windows 7 has been able to make its mark in the market. Moreover, Microsoft has also been able to satisfy customers after a long hiatus following the release of Windows Vista.

Customers have found Windows 7, faster, facile and lighter, compared to Vista. Windows 7 has elicited good reviews from users and critics alike. Even after nearly six months of its launch too, the operating system has managed to woo customers.

Microsoft can revel in the glory of the success of Windows 7, but, it should not become too complacent. Technology is transient and soon there will be another operating system that the company will have to come up with to keep itself in the race.
