Southeastern US Struck by Tornado

It has been reported that on Saturday, a cyclone, almost a mile broad tore via central Mississippi.

According to state authorities, 10 people died, counting three children, and injuring dozens more.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said that at least 13 counties have been struck by the tornado, obliterating scores of residences with entrapped people, damaging industries, jamming highways and taking away power from thousands.

Spokesman at the agency, Greg Flynn said that five people died in Choctaw County, four in Yazoo County and one in Holmes County.

Governor Haley Barbour stated, "We have fatalities, a number of people that we're still trying to rescue who are trapped in buildings. But it is a major, significant tornado ... and it did some huge damage and perhaps some fatalities north of here”.

According to the emergency agency, the Hinds County Sheriff's Department is sending two dozen representatives and 100 inmates to help with the response in Yazoo County and clear wreckage.

Greg Carbin, Spokesman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that the tornado system has shifted to Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.
