Health officials are urging the pregnant women and other risk groups to wait for their turn to get immunized against A (H1N1) virus. So far, they are targeting the frontline health workers.
It has been assured by Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral that they are preparing for blueprints to chalk out schedules for vaccination purposes.
The Health Department announced in the past that approximately 2.5 million pregnant women will be given the priority to get vaccinated, after they complete the schedule of covering around 420,000 health workers on the national and local base. The vaccinations will then be provided to other groups which include children, aged people and patients suffering with chronic medical issues.
It has been confirmed that health workers are the most vulnerable group and can lead to spread of the disease more than any other risk group. Around 1.9 million doses have been ordered for the purpose of covering the priority group. They have stated that vaccination will not help the people who have been infected with the virus.
WHO director general Margaret Chan said, “The endowment is part of the WHO’s pledge to make distribution more equitable and fair to protect poor and vulnerable populations in developing countries”.
