The charity walk organised to raise funds for people suffering from multiple sclerosis, received an enthusiastic response. It managed to attract more than 3,000 people. This walk is an annual event and helps raise awareness about multiple sclerosis and its dangers.

It was organised by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. This event was started and 500 red balloons were released in the air. Each balloon signified a $20 donation to Canada’s Multiple Sclerosis Society. The society provides funds for research and also helps those suffering with this problem.

It may be recalled that the walk helped raise $323,000 in sponsorships last year. This year’s top fundraiser, Adam Goldberg alone has helped raise $10,000 for the event. He was diagnosed with MS in 2004 and has been taking part in the event since 2006. Adam had started fund-raising activities in November for this year’s walk.

Around 200 volunteers also helped keep things in order and cheered the people participating in the walk. Ophira Calof, a high school student also took lead and organised ‘A Night For Music’, a musical event to raise support for May 26, World Multiple Sclerosis Day.

Multiple Sclerosis is a dangerous problem according to medical experts. It attacks a person’s central nervous system and can hinder a person’s ability to walk, talk and see.

Events like these are important to help raise awareness about multiple sclerosis and must be encouraged, according to medical experts.
