Australian Horse Industry Gets Ultimatum on Disease Tax System

Central and State Government have forwarded the horse industry an ultimatum, regarding, either they should agree with the terms and conditions of tax system or pay for potential disease epidemic.

At the Primary Industries Ministerial Council on Friday, the Ministers stated that the horse industry should give its commitment to a nationalized levy and sign up to the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement by the month of December this year.

If no commitment comes from the industry players, the industry will have to pay huge amount of money for disease outbreaks, itself.

Roger Lavelle, from the Australian Horse Industry Council, said that charitable vaccinations are not a rational approach, and believes that the business has a rough path ahead to come to an agreement by the end of the current year.

The thing that is more complex is to get a levy that is going to be appropriate for a logically broad cross-section of the industry, so that they do not indulge in persuading the Opposition parties to go against any new legislation.

However, it seems that even if the industry signs up to national levy, the dispute regarding voluntary or charitable vaccinations, would not fade.
