Apple and controversy seems to be made for each other. The buzz about a leaked iPhone 4G has barely died down, while two products similar to iPod touch were spotted on eBay. These images revealed a camera at the back side and carried the label DVT which is Design Verification Test.
It has lead to increased speculation that these products are prototypes. These gadgets were running on iPhone’s test software Switchboard. The other device had ‘Apple Development Team’ sticker pasted on its back panel. Both these gadgets were removed from eBay, later.
It seems that someone is trying to sell an iPod Touch or simply trying to grab online attention. It may be recalled that last year also, images of iPod touch with a camera had emerged on the internet. But Apple launched iPod Touch 3G without a camera thereafter.
There were reports that Apple had removed the camera from iPod Touch 3G after hardware related issues. After the product was taken apart by researchers, it was confirmed that space had been reserved for a camera.
Apple had refreshed the iPod Touch 3G in September last year, as part of its annual product update. There are hopes that Apple may release a newer version with a camera this year.
