NHS has been alarmed by security firm Symantec that the Qakbot botnet is affecting about 2GB of confidential data every week, including the online banking details, site passwords, credit card info, plus everything that is typed into the browser of affected user. It has also been revealed in the blog that this also robs the details of the infected machines.
According to the posted blog, Symantec claims that Qakbot however, is a smaller botnet, but as observed in last two years, it has been found that about four gigabytes of data is missing as it has been stolen. It has also been stated that about 1100 different systems have been compromised.
During the course of testing, the logs that were considered signified a "noteworthy" Qakbot infection that was distressing one of the most prominent national health organization of UK.
Symantec added that although many efforts have been made to "contact affected parties", there is no evident clue of whether any data of customer or patient data has been lost. However, the Symantec Security Operations Manager Orla Cox said that customer data may not have been affected.
The matter was known in March, when the company started monitoring two command-and-control servers which are also the infected FTP servers and a part of botnet.
