WellPoint Asked to Halt Dropping Coverage for Patients

It was seen lately that Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services had asked WellPoint, the health insurer to halt reducing coverage for patients, who had been lately detected with breast cancer.

It was told by Sebelius who is Wellpoints's Chief Executive that on April22 a letter had been mailed to Angela Braly which shows that the company had targeted the women with breast cancer with a purpose to abandon their policies.

"As you know, the practice described in this article will soon be illegal. The Affordable Care Act specifically prohibits insurance companies from rescinding policies, except in cases of fraud or intentional misrepresentation of material fact", wrote Sebelius.

On Thursday it was stated by the Reuters that WellPoint, which was the major U. S. health insurer had been using a computer algorithm that automatically attacked patients who were newly detected with breast cancer.

According to Government regulators and investigators, it was seen that the software generated a scam investigation by the company as it looked for reasons to reduce the coverage,

It was written by Sebelius that breast cancer was the second highest type of cancer in women. She also said that it affected millions of families. It was noticed that around one in eight American women were affected with cancer.
