Radiation Victim Loses Life

A victim of exposure to radioactive material lost his life yesterday around 9 30 p. m. He was undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The patient died as a result of multiple organ failure.

It may be recalled that the city of Delhi was put on high alert after there was a report of leakage of radioactive material in Mayapuri industrial are in West Delhi. He had been undergoing treatment since April 8.

According to doctors, another patient is also in critical condition and his condition is being monitored constantly. There are still eight patients in hospitals due to radiation exposure.

There are still five more patients at AIIMS undergoing treatment. Out of these, three people are still suffering from very low blood count but their condition is stable, according to doctors attending on them.

A scrap metal dealer, Deepak Jain from Mayapuri was the first victim after being exposed to Cobalt 60, which is a highly radioactive substance. His body turned black after coming in contact with the radioactive substance. He is suffering from very low bone marrow count and is undergoing treatment at the Indrasprastha Apollo Hospital.

Another radiation victim is also undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Pitampura. Ajay Jain had received minor burns on his body after being exposed to radiation. Even though he has been declared to be radiation free by doctors, his condition continues to be monitored and the patient is still under care.
