On Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices launched the Phenon II X6, a six-core chip, with some features that are not available of Intel's Core i7s; however, it is available at very reasonable price.
AMD launched two Phenom IIs: a 2.8-GHz Phenom II X6 1055T for $199, and an unlocked Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition, as well as unlocked edition price, which is $295. Both were earlier branded as the Thuban chip.
Both chips fit inside a 125-watt thermal cover, and consist of 3 Mbytes of dedicated L2 cache, 6 Mbytes of L3 cache, and use a 4-GHz HyperTransport bus.
AMD, for has been lauded for its pricing, but there is flaw present in the Phenom II X6's feature as it remained a step below than that of Intel. Intel has priced its top-of-the-line 2.66-GHz core i5-661 at $196, and its 2.80-GHz Core i7-930 at $294.
There are new components that consist of the turbo boost feature of the Intel Core i7 chips, which lets the Phenom II X6 to over clock up to three of the six cores if the others are in a power-down or inactive condition.
