Following the unnecessary fuss created by the McAfee anti-virus update which led to system crash in a number of computers running Windows XP Service Pack 3, last week, McAfee has now announced that it will compensate for the losses occurred to the users.
"If you have already incurred costs to repair your PC as a result of this issue, we're committed to reimbursing reasonable expenses", quoted the company. It added that the reimbursement process will appear on the website shortly.
The company said that for all those whose computers lost functionality totally due to the faulty update, the company will extend a two year subscription for free. It clarified that very systems have encountered a permanent damage.
The problem made way last Wednesday when DAT update file dislocated the svchost. exe file via McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on Windows XP service pack 3.
McAfee also mentioned that users with VirusScan Enterprise 8.7 got affected more intensely than those running version 8.5.
The next day, McAfee explained that the problem might have occurred because of the change in its QA environments which could not detect the faulty DAT during the testing process.
