Dr. Al Hourani’s Name Has Been Struck Off the Medical Register

Dr Sulieman Al Hourani, who carelessly cut off a patient's testicle has been struck off the medical register. He was supposed to take out a cyst on the patient's right testis, but removed the whole testicle.

The patient had gone into Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester, for the operation in September 2007 and was the first patient for the day.

The nurse, who was assisting Dr. Al Hourani in the operation, turned her back and in a split of seconds he removed the testicle. He was also found guilty of misconduct by a General Medical Council fitness to practice panel in his absence.

In August 2006, he had injected two milligrams of midazolam, a powerful sedative drug, into himself which was intended for a patient. At that time, he was serving as the most senior surgeon on duty at the time. The doctor was unable to stand on his feet, according to the hospital staff.

Dr. Al Hourani was dismissed by his employers, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, in October 2007, for he allegedly stole two boxes of dihydrocodeine tablets from a ward treatment room.
