The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has asked the Federal Government to commit $830 million to refurbish existing GP clinics.
This suggestion was made by the AMA, after it released the results of a survey of 1,500 patients.
This survey was the first of its kind to take into consideration a nationwide opinion of experiences with family doctors. The survey evinced that almost 90% of people have a family doctor and 80%. These people are also contented with the health care that they receive.
The Australian Medical Association is asking the Federal Government make sure that patients can choose doctors and they have an sufficient time to consult them.
It has been reported that in the opinion of doctors $830 million is required to be invested to advance existing surgeries in lieu of creating new GP super clinics.
Federal AMA President Dr Andrew Pesce says, “The family doctor must remain the foundation of our health system. The Government must demonstrate in its primary care policy and in the May Budget that it will provide more support and greater incentives for family doctors to allow them to continue serving their communities and to attract more doctors into general practice”.
