In the latest case of celebrity drunk-driving, the NBA analyst for TNT and a former NBA star, Charles Barkley was arrested by the police on Wednesday. He was taken into custody after he ran a stop sign, suspected for driving under influence. He was released after the booking procedure.
Barkley, 45, could face up to 10 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The incident took place at around 1:30 am in Old Town Scottsdale, near Phoenix. Barkley, who was driving his 2005 Infiniti, was escorted to a DUI checkpoint for a blood test - fro determining his alcohol blood contest - by a mobile task force.
According to Gilbert police Lieutenant Eric Shuhandler, Barkley cooperated with the authorities during the entire procedure, and the basketball legend was treated in a manner in which any other person arrested on DUI chargers in treated.
During his career spanning 16 years, Barkley played for three teams - the Philadelphia 76ers, the Suns and Houston Rockets. He was named the Most Valuable Player by NBA in 1993. When he retired, he was one of only four players in NBA history with 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists in 16 seasons.
The controversial and outspoken Barkley, who resounded “I am not a role model” in his 1993 advertising campaign for Nike, announced this October that he intends running for governor of Alabama in 2014.
