Attempting a turnaround as a part of global restructuring, two of Dell's top executives are expected to depart soon, and their posts will be taken up by two other senior executives within the company.
Michael Cannon, president of global operations, will retire in January-end, and will be replaced by Jeff Clarke as vice chairman of global operations and head of Dell's business client product group; and Mark Jarvis, chief marketing officer, will leave during this fiscal quarter, to be replaced by Erin Nelson, former vice president of marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
However, after their respective departures from Dell, both Cannon and Jarvis will be consultants with the company.
The overhauling move by the company is a part of its effort to reorganize itself around global market segments. The changes clearly indicate Dell's desire to grow faster overseas, in competition with Hewlett-Packard, Apple, Acer and other overseas makers.
With one of the company's four main product segments - the one which focuses on the consumer market - is already into global operations, Dell is reorganizing the other three - namely, small and medium-size businesses, large corporations and other institutions like government - into global units.
Dell spokesman, David Frink, has described the departures of the two top executives as a positive development at the company and not a shake-up, as the move would help the company develop and deploy standardized products faster across the world.
