MMC Planning to Increase Power Generation Revenues

Malaysian Government’s policy to increase power generation in the country may have a positive impact on MMC Corporation revenues. The company’s Managing Director hoped that the coming months will help the company improve its business on account of these measures announced by the Government.

He replied that the company is ready to supply additional power to the national grid. He interacted with the media after the company’s annual general meeting.

It was mentioned that the company is already supplying 21,000 Mega Watts throughout the country and is ready to expand services. The county’s power supply demands are going up every year and the company is ready to expand capacity.

It was reported that the company has the resources to expand the services. Their power stations already possess reserve capacity which can be expanded as required. It will also help in savings of around US$100 million as the company does not need to spend on building transmission grid.

The project will start only after the Energy Commission and the clearances of the concerned ministry, said the MD. MMC will be spending around US$1.2 billion for capacity expansion.

The company’s revenue suffered a dip last year due to economic recession and lower than expected performance of its core and associated business. The company is also an international player in water desalination projects. Besides this, it has also interests in transport and logistics business.
