FDA approval for Labopharm Ryzolt pain reliever

 Labopharm Inc., a Canada based pharmaceutical company stated that has got the US FDA approval for its pain reliving drug Ryzolt. The drug is an analgesic which can be used once a day by chronic pain-suffering adults. It is a tramadol which would provide around the clock relief for moderate to severe pain. 

The company plans to launch the drug in the second half of 2009. The drug would be marketed by Purdue Pharma. It will be available in dosages ranging from 100 to 300 milligram strength. 

Ryzolt is already accessible in 14 countries. In Germany, it has been available since 2006. This was followed by its launch in many European nations and Australia. In Canada, it has been made available since 2007.

Labopharm is seeking approval for the drug in 29 other countries.

Ever since its approval for sale in the US, the shares of the company have shot up by nearly 45%. 

Chief executive James Howard-Tripp said, "Obviously the launch in the U. S. is a big step in starting to generate revenue."
