Mental Health of China Revealed by Study

A survey has revealed that 17.5% of Chinese adults suffer from mental disorders, 6.1% suffer from mood disorders and 5.6% are afflicted with anxiety disorders. There are also a reported 5.9% who suffer from substance abuse disorders.

The results of the survey were revealed on the chinanews. com. cn on Wednesday.

It has been reported that the survey has been conducted in collaboration with the many Chinese hospitals in the country, during the period from 2001 to 2005.

This is the third survey of the type to be conducted. It took into consideration 12% of Chinese adults who were more than 18 years of age.

The survey showed that women have a higher likelihood of suffering from mood disorders and anxiety disorders as compared to men. Moreover, the risk of being afflicted with alcohol abuse is 38 times more elevated in men in contrast to women.
