Google has decided to launch Nexus One exclusively on Vodafone network in the UK market. It was expected that the phone would be available directly from Google.
Google had earlier launched the phone in US without a service provider. It was not exclusively tied to a service provider like iPhone is available only on AT&T in US.
But after the phone was launched in US, a lot of customers had a lot to complain about the device. Most of these complaints related to customer care apart from after-sales service.
To avoid the repeat of any such event in UK, experts feel that it is being launched exclusively on Vodafone only. It will be offered through Vodafone stores, through internet by Vodafone and by phone from Vodafone’s sales phone line.
A user can still get the device through Google website. It will be available as per US prices, without any SIM card. But it will include international shipping costs which will add around $150 to the overall price. The price for a Nexus one handset without a contract is £439.28 in the UK market.
This is still a bargain compared to Vodafone deal which charges £35 month along with a minimum contract of 2 years. The price is almost twice than what one can get directly from Google even after factoring all the expenses.
Many feel that given the high cost of the handset through a Vodafone contract, people will much rather go for another handset. This can have a negative impact on the sales of Nexus One in the UK market.
