Researchers are working on developing a protein which may help us re-grow a broken bone or damaged tissue three times faster than normal. The experiment has already been performed successfully on mice in research labs.
This protein is responsible for growth of various tissues in salamanders, zebra fish and mice. Scientists hope to be able to replicate the same protein in human beings the way it works in these animals. If this proves successful it can lead to a revolutionary change in the way various facial, muscular, brain and tissue injuries are treated.
The lead researchers of this study hope to replicate the same results in mammals as in other animals. This protein can also be a good alternative to various medicines used to heal or accelerate bone growth after fractures.
It has been speculated for many years that these proteins can be used to help treat various injuries in human beings. But the research was not easy and a lot of effort was needed to separate this protein.
After injecting mice with this protein, it was observed by researchers that those who were injected with this protein showed a much better recovery level than those who were taking regular treatment.
It not only helped grow new bone tissue but also helped maintain bone tissue as well. It can help regenerate tissues even in stroke and heart attack victims. The study has been published in the latest issue of the online journal Science Translational Medicine.
